Case Study

Tastes of the World

A one form entry Junior school in Christchurch were looking to freshen up their offering in the last term of the year.

To reward the school for their resilience and effort over the year, they booked Flavours to bring their cookery road show to them. Over three days, catering for 90 children, the smells of cooking wafted through the corridors of their school – a different International cusine each day.

On Italian day, the Year 2 class prepared and served fresh ravioli using authentic pasta machines, topped with a rich tomato and basil sauce. Next day, it was the aromas of cumin, coriander and fenugreek that got noses twitching, as the Year 6 class enjoyed dal, onion bhajis and raita. For the Mexican menu, Year 4 children had fajitas sizzling in their griddle pans, cooked down with a fresh guacamole and salsa.

Everything from serving plates to cookers and cutlery was provided. The hall was set up and cleared away by Flavours staff and the children were left with a lasting memory of the time the school was transformed into a working kitchen.  For some of the children, it was the first time they had eaten food they had cooked themselves – but you can guarantee it won’t be the last!
